On Friday, September 15 at 8 p.m., Collin Zwickel will embark on his first ultramarathon to raise funds in partnership with the recently-formed Happy Kids Foundation. Over the course of 18 hours or so, Zwickel plans to set off from Vancouver and make his way up the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler.

All funds raised will go toward a pair of nonprofit organizations, Backpack Buddies and Zajac Ranch.

"Having a full stomach, sports to play, and summer camp to look forward to is not something every kid has access to here locally. I want to change that," said Zwickel.

Although he did not participate in endurance sports growing up, the Vancouverite has taken to running with newfound purpose in 2023. At 35 years old, he aims both to support children and families in need, and inspire others to push their own boundaries.

Zwickel began fundraising approximately three weeks ago and has already mustered $45,000. "I’ve been fully taken back by the support I’ve received to date; I’ve been welcomed with open arms within the running community along with philanthropic individuals throughout the city," he said.
