Leo Laferriere has extended his winning streak to four.
The Pembertonian overcame Liam Fordham, a fighter he'd previously lost to, by unanimous decision last Friday at North Vancouver gym Griffins Boxing. Both 140-pounders showed up ready to engage, but Laferriere's improved strength, speed and ring IQ proved key as he made up the experience gap on his foe.
"All of Leo’s [recent] opponents were not pushovers but decent boxers," said Whistler Boxing Club head coach Sasha Gier. "We spent many months bringing Leo’s conditioning, speed and techniques up. It showed during competitions as all three [of his] last opponents took standing eight-counts from Leo’s punches."
Laferriere is proving to have a solid chin as well. Chilliwack Boxing's Fordham landed a few powerful blows during their match, but the local absorbed them without faltering.
"Definitely room for improvement," Gier remarked. "Would like to thank coaches Dan Ross, Geoff Bates and assistant coach Devyn Frame for helping with Leo’s training and working his corner during the fight. Leo is going to have two more fights before summer. [Our] club is moving to a new location: Whistler Sport Legacies in Cheakamus. Leo is going to take a couple weeks easy, then go back to training."
