In the Vancouver International Marathon on May 6, eight Whistlerites went the distance: Ian Goard (3 hours 11 minutes), Hiromasa Sato (3:35), Christy Wilson (3:39), Didier Tontain (3:49), Mae Palm (3:52 first in her age category), Catherine Yates (4:00), Whitney Reynolds (4:02), and Roxanne Mellahn (4:41).
On the same weekend, 18 Whistler residents ran the half marathon: Bryan Hawkey (1:33), Dave Ellis (1:34), Sandy Treagus (1:36), Louise McCorquodale (1:37), Hideo Noguchi (1:38), Karen Farr (1:40), Marshal Talbot (1:42), Mitch Hunter (1:44), Markus Samer (1:44), Jeannie Treagus (1:47), Brian Macpherson (1:47), Chennell Perrin (1:56), Sharon Fugman (1:59), Ardeen Misanchuk (2:04), Shelley Adamowicz (2:05), Christa Vandeberg (2:12), Nikki Kent (2:44), and Sarah Kent (2:44).
In the Vancouver International 5-Miler, four Whistler runners took part: David Smith (36:27), Mike Knapton (44:55), Darlene Curl (1:01:07), and Shelley Sorenson-Toutain (1:14:07).
In the Pacific Spirit 10K Trail Run on Mothers Day, five teams of Whistler Secondary school girls and their mothers competed, plus five staff members, after training for the past month. The participants were Danielle and Patti OReilly, Jamie and Susie McCance, Sandra and Carol Bayliss, Cristina, Serena and Linda McKean, Kath and Gail Rybar, Sally Reid, Janet Penny, Jacqui Tyler, Lisa Mason and Georgina Titus.
You can look for these runners in town at the annual Whistler Valley Trail Run on May 27, starting at 9 a.m. You can run or walk either five or 10 kilometres, and proceeds from the entry fees will go towards the Whistler Food Bank and Youth Action Team.
