As always, Whistler was well-represented at the most recent B.C. Cup mountain bike event in Summerland, B.C. The third cross country and second downhill events of the season took place on May 20 and 21 as part of the Action Quest weekend.
James Crowe, who is sponsored by the Glacier Shop and rides for the Single Track Off-Road Mountain Bike Club of Whistler (STORMBC), was the top rider in the mens Under 15 race, finishing almost five and a half minutes ahead of the runner up and nine minutes ahead of the third place finisher.
In the mens Under 17 category Cory Derpak finished eighth out of 33 competitors. STORMBC teammates Jason Klimock and Ryan Black finished 22 nd and 23 rd respectively.
Brooke Baker, last years champion in the Cadet Sport Category, moved up to Junior Expert Women where she finished third at Action Quest.
In the Master 30 to 39 Expert Men, former WORCA president Chris Bishop finished 23 rd out of 40 racers.
Tony Routley, who rides for Rocky Mountain Bicycles, finished second in the Master 40 Plus Expert mens race by a gap of six minutes. Routley won the first two B.C. Cup races of the season. Eric Crowe, James father, finished in fifth place in the same category, also riding for the Glacier Shop.
In the downhill on May 21, Whistler extreme skier Jen Ashton finished third in a tight race less than 20 seconds separated the top four finishers.
Jeff Beatty finished fifth in the Junior Expert men, just eight seconds out of the lead. Beatty won the Canada Cup and B.C. Cup last year in the Cadet Expert category, and is competing against an older and more experienced field.
