Whistler Mountain Ski Club sweeps ladies' U16 Coast Zone giant slalom

Two locals make U16 men's podium on home snow

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) facilitated it's first Coast Zone event of the year, and local athletes earned their share of hardware.

Maggie Cormack led the U16 girls' giant slalom pack on Saturday with a victorious time of two minutes and 27.94 seconds. Her club-mates Thea Han (2:33.55) and Maia Harriman (2:34.78) locked up silver and bronze respectively with Sarah Keogh (2:39.52) in fourth.

Whistlerite boys likewise acquitted themselves well under bluebird skies. Ziggy Suchy (2:26.92) came within a hair's breadth of gold medallist Eric Kratsev from Grouse Mountain (2:26.31) and Pasha Tehrani finished third (2:27.57), leaving Bodie Morgan just off the podium (2:28.40).

"This was the first WMSC-hosted race of the season and the first Coast Zone race for the U16 age group. Athletes trained hard and were focused on race day. Coaches and volunteers came together to make this race a memorable experience," reads a WMSC press release.

"Everyone was grateful to the [Dave Murray] National Training Centre on Whistler and to Vail Resorts for the continued work at maintaining the training and race conditions on Ptarmigan."
