Athletes from the Whistler Freeride Club distinguished themselves in the recent IFSA junior regional event from Jan. 28 to 29 at Big White Ski Resort. Girls aged 15 to 18 were especially impressive as Kayla Constantini led a podium sweep in that category.
At just 16 years old, Constantini is well on her way to a solid freeride career, with sponsors like Rossignol, Helly Hansen and Teton Gravity. She skied to first place with a score of 61.30 points at Big White.
"Hyped for top spot at Big White!" Constantini said on her Instagram account after the competition. "Had so much fun. Big thanks to all the Whistler Freeride Club coaches for the support!"
In second place was Addison Gemmill, who pushed Constantini hard but ultimately finished as runner-up with 61.07 points. Brooke Hemstead took third after a solid 60.07-point performance.
Another Whistlerite, Talia Wittenberg, just missed out on the podium and settled for fourth with 57.90 points.
Whistler Freeride Club boys likewise acquitted themselves well in the age 15-18 bracket. Kenta Tanaka came away with victory by scoring 64.07 points, while one of his peers, Jake Yarnold, placed third (63.36). In between them was second-place finisher Kade Cochrane of the Revelstoke Ski Club Freeride Team (63.90).
David Peatfield of Whistler ended up fourth (62.83).
