After striking superpipe gold this weekend in Aspen, Colo., Cassie Sharpe declared on Instagram that she was "back in X Games mode, baby!"
It's hard to argue with that remark. Sharpe wowed fans in attendance with her toolbox of tricks, flying over 12 feet above the wall of the 22-foot halfpipe during the finals. Her best run featured consecutive 900s and a 1080: enough to warrant 88.33 points.
China's Fanghui Li earned her first piece of Winter X Games hardware, a silver (86.66), and Amy Fraser joined her fellow Canadian on the podium with bronze (84.66).
Noticeably absent from the field was three-time Olympic medallist Eileen Gu, who could not participate after falling hard in last Friday's street style event.
Sharpe held her infant daughter Louella while waiting for results to be announced. Louella was born in 2023 and is the reason why the former Olympic champ took two years away from competing.
"It's been a long road back," admitted an emotional Sharpe on the X Games broadcast. "I'm speechless. I can't believe it. I'm over the moon and I'm so grateful. When I'm mad that I'm not landing something, you come down and you've got a cute little baby smiling at you...it's just a mood-flipper. I just wanted to come out swinging."
The Squamish resident and BC Sports Hall of Famer now owns three halfpipe victories and six total medals from Aspen, a venue she'd not graced in four years.
Back in December, Sharpe clinched bronze in her return to the World Cup circuit.
