Skeleton is underway at the IBSF North American Cup (NAC) in Whistler, and Canadians are continuing their winning ways.
Tirza Lara bested all comers with a two-run time of one minute, 49.97 seconds. The local Sea to Sky athlete is off to a good start this season after placing 14th at the Junior World Championships last January. Seokju Yang of Korea claimed second (1:50.62) and Colombian Laura Vargas was third (1:51.01).
Meanwhile, Ryan Kuehn was golden among men (1:47.51). The Calgarian had to outduel Ireland's Brendan Doyle, who earned a silver medal (1:47.67). Troy Wilson, another Calgary native, wound up with bronze (1:47.79).
No one has been able to knock Team Canada off the top of the podium so far. Melissa Lotholz and Carter Malyk each have two gold medals in monobob and two-man bobsleigh respectively. More NAC action is on tap for Saturday, with the skeleton racers going for round two at 10 a.m. and the bobsledders in at 3 p.m. for two-woman and four-man events.
