Local mountain biking favourites Tegan Cruz and Wei Tien Ho were in fine form on April 29 at the eighth annual Pemberton Enduro.

Both riders found themselves neck and neck this past weekend throughout the U19 boys race. Cruz ultimately took the win in a time of 14 minutes, 48.034 seconds, barely edging out Ho who reached the line in 14:48.625. Zac Stratton ended up in third (15:18.561).

"Pemberton Enduro 2023 was a time!" said Cruz on his Instagram account after the contest. "Really cool racing a fully blind enduro race this past weekend! Good fun riding all day with friends! Shoutout to all the volunteers and everyone at PORCA for a great event!

"Fun to host the apres and podium at Masaya farm and give back to the hometown community!"

Sophi Lawrence claimed victory among U19 girls (20:41.536), ahead of runner-up Mhairi Smart (22:48.112) and third-place finisher Emily Wilson (23:21.966).

In the U15 boys category, Mateo Quist stood atop the podium (16:17.004) over Sebastien Harrison (16:41.827) and Jack McCredie (18:04.982).

Charlotte Gadbois Schuett was the lone U15 girl in the field (24:34.673).

As the Pemberton Enduro uses a 'blind' format, contenders do not know the exact look of the race ahead of time. They do know that they will face approximately 40 kilometres of distance and up to 2000 metres of elevation gain.

According to the event website, all proceeds go to community non-profit organizations like the Pemberton Off Road Cycling Association (PORCA), Pemberton Search and Rescue and Pemberton Valley Trail Association.
