A pair of local skiers competed at the opening event of the Freeride World Tour (FWT) on Friday in Baqueira Beret, Spain.

Wei Tien Ho, who qualified for this year's season via wildcard, put himself into sixth place. Incumbent FWT overall runner-up Marcus Goguen finished 14th.

Gold belongs, however, to Ross Tester and his excellent 92.67-point run. Toby Rafford (91.33) raised eyebrows to win silver next to his fellow American Tester and Ben Richards represented New Zealand capably with bronze (89.00).

"The venue was super fun, and though the conditions seemed a bit odd at first, everything came together really well. I'm stoked about it," Tester said in a press release.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe made Canada proud with her triumphant effort in the women's ski category (82.00). The two-time Olympic moguls medallist won a FWT title in 2023 and returned to her winning ways by authoring a standout run that featured an impressive backflip.

French athlete Astrid Cheylus placed second (77.00) and Zuzanna Witych of Poland was third (73.33).

Dufour-Lapointe told the media: "At the top I felt nervous, but I reminded myself to trust my body, follow my heart, and ski with a smile on my face."

Three-time FWT champ Victor De Le Rue (83.33) topped the men's snowboard division, and his French compatriot Noémie Equy (76.00) prevailed among women.
