Momentum Ski Camps has announced in an email newsletter distributed Thursday that its summer programs (in their current form) are no more.

The newsletter elaborates: "Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed they can no longer operate summer glacier operations on the Horstman Glacier for the foreseeable future, due to the impacts of snowpack and glacial recession on safety and lift access."

Having celebrated its 30th anniversary two years ago, Momentum Camps grew from a relatively small, 43-camper undertaking in 1992 to a well-known organization serving more than 1,200 skiers and snowboarders. It has played a role in developing Olympians, World Cup winners and X Games greats in addition to numerous locals who have a passion for sport.

"The fun, the friendships, the camaraderie, and the memories will last forever. We will miss all of you—the campers, staff, and our legendary pro coaches—who have shaped generations of athletes," said a camp spokesperson in the newsletter.

"Momentum remains committed to the future of summer ski and snowboard training in Whistler. We are actively working with Whistler Blackcomb to explore long-term solutions to bring summer skiing back. While still in the exploratory phase, we are optimistic and will keep you updated as discussions progress."
