Whistler's Marcus Goguen wrapped up his Freeride World Tour (FWT) season last month with a 10th-place result in Austria. By earning a total of 5525 points, he became the top Canadian competing from March 11 to 17 in Fieberbrunn.
It has been a breakout campaign for Goguen, who in late January prevailed at the Freeride Junior World Championships (FJWC) with a confident, high-amplitude run under pressure. The Whistler Freeride Club alum has also co-starred in Daymaker, a snow sports film by Warren Miller Entertainment.
Another B.C. athlete, Katie Anderson, struck her third gold of the season in the women's snowboard category. The Jaffray native linked pristine powder turns into a close-out cliff and finished with a clean bottom section featuring multiple airs to distinguish herself from her opponents.
The Yeti Xtreme Verbier in Switzerland scheduled from March 25 to April 2 was originally meant to be this year's FWT finale, but organizers decided to cancel the event due to adverse weather and snow conditions.
As a result, two Canadian women have been crowned FWT World Champions: Anderson and two-time Olympic medallist Justine Dufour-Lapointe. Austria's Valenin Rainer emerged as the top male skier, and Ludovic Guillot-Diat of France the top male snowboarder.
Full results from Fieberbrunn are available on the FWT website.
