A number of locals have been taking part in marathons as far away as Chicago this past season, posting some excellent results.
In the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 7, four locals took part, led by Georgina Titus who finished in three hours, 50 minutes. Joan Schuppli ran the 42 kilometres in 4:33, Anna Sinclair in 5:15 and Janet Penny in 5:15.
In the Okanagan International Marathon in Kelowna on Oct. 7, Whistlers Ian Goard finished in an impressive time of 3:07. Ray Bernoties, a constable with the Whistler RCMP detachment, finished in four hours exactly.
Eight locals took part in the Royal Victoria Marathon on the same day. Paul Nicholas led the way, finishing 12 th in the 30 to 34 age group and 45 th overall out of more than 2,700 competitors with a time of 2:58.
Daniel Havens was 31 st out of the 237 competitors in his age group and 221 st overall in 3:18.
Christine Suter was 25 th out of 244 women in the 30 to 34 group with a time of 3:34. Stephanie Rochon was 14 th out of 173 in the womens 25 to 29 group in 3:35.
Paul Suter finished in 3:43, Venetia Carlin in 4:30, Christine Harrison in 4:35 and Connie Sobebak in 4:47.
On Oct. 8, no fewer than 15 Whistlerites took part in the Royal Victoria Half-Marathon. Competitors included: Sandy Treagus (1:32), Colin McGeachy (1:34), Jennifer Walker (1:39), Jacob Diamond (1:40), Jeannie Treagus (1:41), Che Koroll (1:51), Corinna Bergeron (1:56), Shelley Donald (1:57), Jillian McArthur (2:00), Maria Shallard (2:00), Ali White (2:02), Sharon Leinweber (2:02), Rustom Mehta (2:11), Rosalie Dowse (2:11), Kamila Basher (2:36).
