It was a rock-solid third-place effort for Cameron Alexander on Saturday at the FIS World Cup downhill race in Bormio, Italy. Only two Swiss athletes, triumphant Alexis Monney (1:53.43) and Franjo von Allmen in the runner-up hole (1:53.67) managed to best the Whistlerite's time of one minute and 54.15 seconds.
Alexander has now earned bronze in Bormio for two straight years en route to his fourth World Cup medal. Racing on the three-kilometre long Stelvio piste, he faced one of the season's most demanding downhill events and held down second until Monney dropped in 13 men later.
"It was another classic day in Bormio. It was bumpy, it was icy, and it was dark. It’s a fight the whole way down," said a grinning Alexander in a press release. "This place has been good to me the last couple of years, and it feels great to be back on the podium. You really need to push here and be on top of your skis the whole way down. I’ve managed to do that the last couple of races here and got some good results.
"It’ll be great to have the Olympics here in [2026]. It’s a track that we have a ton of experience on, and a track that I’ve had some success on. I think I’ll bring some good confidence to my skiing here, and it should be exciting."
Jack Crawford was the next-fastest Canadian in 17th.
