Whistler Nordics has officially declared its 32nd annual Loppet. One of the longest-running events in town, it is now dubbed the Cheryl Morningstar Lost Lake Loppet.
On Feb. 16, the day starts and finishes at the Lost Lake PassivHaus and winds through the Lost Lake Nordic Trails.
"With all the new snow and cold temperatures the course is setting up to be in perfect shape for the exciting event," said organizer Misa Pacakova in a press release.
As a local pioneer, Morningstar contributed to the Whistler cross-country community in its early days. She devoted hundreds of hours to support the Jackrabbit program, Track Attack, the Whistler Nordics Ski Club, and the Whistler Loppet at Lost Lake. Morningstar passed away in 2019 and continues to be remembered by her family, friends, and community.
All distances are open to any age and either skate or classic technique. Recreational kids aged 8 and under can tackle a three-kilometre course, while older kids and recreational skiers may choose the nine-kilometre route.
The 18-kilometre competition course includes two laps at Lost Lake Park encompassing the Upper Chateau Whistler Golf Course fairways, depending on conditions.
