Cameron Alexander was fifth in the Kitzbühel downhill on Jan. 19, 2024: his career best on that particular course.

It's another career milestone for Cameron Alexander.

The Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) alum sped to his best-ever result in the demanding Kitzbühel downhill on Jan. 19: fifth place in a time of one minute and 56.21 seconds. He was just over a tenth of a second away from podium position, but now has six World Cup top 10s on his resume.

Cyprien Sarrazin continued his hot streak with another victory (1:55.75). Italy's Florian Schieder nearly caught the Frenchman, but ultimately settled for a very close silver medal (1:55.80) as Marco Odermatt checked in for bronze (1:56.09).

Jack Crawford was the next fastest Canadian in 23rd, followed by Jeffrey Read in 27th and Brodie Seger in 51st.

"The goal here is to be on the top step of the podium,” said Alexander in a press release. “I was close today and a top five in Kitzbühel feels amazing. I focused on attacking the course today with good intensity and confidence and I’m happy with the result. I feel good coming into the race tomorrow."

Alexander sat in the leader’s chair for five racers during the legendary Streif event in Austria before winding up fifth. This is a career-best fourth top-10 in a single season for the North Vancouverite, who climbs to 12th in World Cup downhill standings with half a season to go.

The 27-year-old appears to be picking up steam, having earned his second World Cup medal (a bronze) at the end of 2023 in Bormio. He paced Team Canada again in 24th at the following Jan. 20 Kitzbühel race, ahead of Crawford (27th) and Seger (28th).
