Locals will have a chance to channel their ski-season stoke on Nov. 29 with the very first edition of Whistler Winterlight, a celebration marking the official start of the season that will light up Olympic Plaza.
Organized by the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), Whistler Winterlight will feature interactive light installations, LED aerial performers, a live DJ, and a 60-foot ferris wheel overlooking the Village Stroll.
Illuminated arches provide a backdrop for photos, while interactive displays will give attendees a chance to decorate a glowing ornament or catch winter-themed films on a pop-up screen. DJ Foxy Moron will be on hand providing the soundtrack.
Outdoor skating at Olympic Plaza is also on tap. Normal admission fees apply.
Ferris wheel rides are $5, with proceeds going to local charities. Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride, or 42 inches with a guardian.
The festivities kick off Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., with the main event schedule from 6 to 8 p.m. The ferris wheel will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 30 from noon to 7 p.m.
