The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is reminding Pemberton Valley residents to steer clear of the Adventure Ranch horse trails along the Valley Loop Trail system to prevent an encounter with a bear overwintering in a den near the trails.

There are two trails running parallel to each other in this closed section. Walkers, runners and horse-riders are asked to avoid the area and not use either trail from the Lillooet River Bridge entrance through to the entrance off Airport Road. The SLRD emphasized that walking dogs in the area is particularly ill-advised.

The SLRD said signage and tape posted at both ends of the trail will be removed once "the bear is no longer active or overwintering in this area."

Stay tuned to the SLRD's Facebook page and notices page for updates on the trail.
