The public toilet beside Blackbird Bakery in Pemberton is closed because of ongoing problems. The unisex facility at the train station building has faced ongoing challenges related to “misuse, inappropriate behaviour and vandalism,” according to the Village of Pemberton (VOP).
VOP’S communications and engagement advisor, Michelle Fernandes, said local businesses are being affected by the disruptions.
“In our commitment to providing quality amenities that not only meet health and safety standards but also the needs of residents, visitors, and surrounding businesses, the Village of Pemberton made the decision to temporarily close the facility,” she said. “This decision was made with community well-being in mind and out of respect for nearby businesses, particularly the Blackbird Bakery who leases the Train Station commercial space.”
The temporary closure will give council time to try and find a long-term solution.
“During this closure, we will be reassessing both the design and operations of the facility to prevent these issues from reoccurring,” said Fernandes. “We understand the inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation during this time.”
