Whistler musicians Laura Nedelak and Jon Shrier have been chosen to travel to the Zhangjiajie International Country Music Festival Sept. 1 to 7.
In May, the Resort Municipality of Whistler put out a call to local musicians to apply to play at the festival in Zhangjiajie, a Chinese mountain resort and UNESCO World Heritage Site. There was space for up to 12 local musicians.
“Whistler has a relationship with the mountain resort community of Zhangjiajie and this is a unique opportunity for these two musicians to showcase their skills in an international music festival and act as ambassadors for Whistler," said Councillor Jayson Faulkner, in a release. “I have visited Zhangjiajie and was impressed by both the stunning beauty of the ancient city and the mountains that surround it, and the warmth of its people.”
Nedelak and Shrier have to cover the cost of their trip to Beijing, but will have all other expenses paid for. Festival organizers say they plan to have more than 500 musicians and 30 country music bands from 50 countries perform.
