Those who noticed the absence of Moving Pictures during the World Ski and Snowboard Festival last spring will be glad to know the film festival will return to the resort this fall.
Organizers had decided to forgo the festival last April as they felt it lost impact amongst all the other events held in conjunction with the Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival. However, Maurice Young Millennium Place offers a perfect venue for the Moving Pictures to shine, and the new timing of Nov. 14-17 will give locals a little something extra to get excited about.
"We don’t have anything like this in Whistler. And it’s a great time of year because everyone’s getting geared up for the ski season and anxious and the mountains are just barely opening," says Whistler festival producer, Shauna Hardy.
"It’s an incredible venue to showcase in. Hopefully it’ll be an anchor event at Millennium Place. What we’re hoping to do is bring the event back every fall. I think at this point we’re the first to be confirmed as an anchor event. I think it’s important for the Whistler community to know that they are working hard to capture events, such as Moving Pictures, that really utilizes the space in Millennium Place."
Moving Pictures offers the opportunity for audiences from Ontario to the Yukon to see highly acclaimed and innovative Canadian films in an otherwise Hollywood-dominated market. This year, 12 feature films are on the bill plus a variety of shorts. The full lineup as well as guest appearances will be announced in September.
