Born and bred in Calgary, I’ve now lived here for more than half of my life. For nearly 32 years I’ve been a Prince George guy covering news and sports, first with Prince George This Week and, since October 1994, with the Citizen. It’s the friendly people of PG that made me and my family call this city our home. We’re surrounded by nature and my love of the outdoors is fueled by our close proximity to forests, lakes, rivers mountains and trails that allow you to get out and appreciate our splendid natural areas.
I’m always on the hockey bandwagon with our local teams and I feel fortunate to still be able to lace ‘em up with the Rusty Nuts Oldtimers. I’m into tennis and gardening and I’m also big into getting out on the trails with our dogs, taking them skiing at Otway Norrdic Centre (one of Canada’s best Nordic facilities) or heading out on the single-track trails for a ride or run.
Most of my time at the Citizen has been providing sports coverage writing about our incredible athletes and their accomplishments but I also delve into news stories. The opportunity to explain to our readers new information on all kinds of topics is not only challenging but rewarding. It makes my job as a journalist a paid education. I’ve met some amazingly interesting and good-hearted people getting out into the community to do my job and they are a continual reminder I made the right career choice.
