Whistler laid claim to Canada's first podium appearance of the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland on Saturday, Jan. 18.
In the first-ever women's doubles competition at the Games, Whistler's Caitlin Nash and Natalie Corless secured the silver medal. Racing down the naturally refrigerated track in St. Moritz, the duo finished behind only the winning sled of Jessica Degenhardt and Vanessa Schneider of Germany.
"It is absolutely amazing. I can't even describe how it feels to be an Olympic medallist, but it is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives," Nash said in a release, one day after placing fourth in the women's singles competition.
Nash and Corless sat in fourth after the first run, but put up the second-fastest down time in the second run to leap onto the podium.
"We really wanted to end it here on a good note," Corless added in the same release. "We know that we put down the best run we could on that second run and it definitely paid off."
