The Whistler Community Foundation (WCF) is on the hunt for a new treasurer.

“Whistler Community Foundation is seeking a community member from Whistler or Pemberton to become our next Treasurer,” read an email that went out to members from executive director Claire Mozes. “Our current board member who has been Treasurer for many years, John Walker, is ready to train a new person to take over.”

The WCF is “the steward of money gifted to the community and provides grants in the areas of environment, arts & culture, social service and education,” the email continued. “Our vision is to be impactful in supporting the charities and organizations that address evolving community needs.”

The treasurer would chair the WCF’s Finance & Investment Committee, as well as service on its Governance & Executive Committee.

The WCF board meets six to eight times a year, and recently added two new members to its ranks: Tom Nepomuceno and Donna Savage.

Founded in 1999, the organization has played a vital role in the local non-profit sector, and is responsible for Whistler’s Vital Signs report, which gauges the social, economic and physical well-being of the community through local data.

Speaking to Pique in late 2019, Mozes said she wanted to increase the profile of the organization.

“I think it’s really about increasing the community’s familiarity with the foundation,” she said. “I know our grant recipients know about us, we have some amazing funders that fund us, but it’s making it a little bit more of a household name and explaining what we do.”

Anyone interested in the treasurer position can email Mozes at [email protected] or board chair Sue Lawther at [email protected].
