On July 12, Whistlerites once again gathered to help clean up some of the community's greatest assets at the Great Lake Cleanup.
"I think the reality is that they get a little too much love sometimes and there's never really been a concerted effort to clean up the lakes," said organizer Roger McCarthy.
"There's been a lot of stuff that we've pulled off the bottom over the last few years."
Volunteer dive team Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans was once again on hand, helping McCarthy pull several large, rusted boilers and even a sunken boat out of Alta Lake and onto his barge.
While the amount of garbage pulled from Alta in total wasn't tallied by early Sunday evening, several people onsite noted there seemed to be less than last year's haul of 800 pounds.
