Tickets for this fall’s 21st annual Banff Festival of Mountain Films and third annual Banff Mountain Book Festival are now on sale. The lineup of speakers for this year’s festivals — Oct. 30-Nov. 3 for the book festival, Nov. 1-3 for the film festival — includes British author and mountaineer Jim Curran, French climber Catherine Destivelle, American alpinist Alex Lowe, Banff ice climber and author Joe Josephson, author Gretel Erhlich and scholar Edwin Bernbaum. A Super Pass is available for both festivals for $135. A book festival pass, good for everything except the Literary Lunchbreak, is $48. Single sessions range from $8 to $15. A film festival pass, good for everything except the evening awards, is $95. Individual nights of screenings and the awards range from $20 to $33 each. The negotiations are open to the general public and take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Whistler artist Lois Paterson’s unique batik art is now being displayed at Granite North, in the Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort clubhouse. Paterson’s work can also be seen at the B.C. Golf Museum in Vancouver. The Whistler Resort Association is looking for volunteers to help out with the Whistler Roots Festival, July 19-21. Volunteers are needed for a number of positions, including hospitality suite hosts, ambassadors, production assistants, merchandise sales people and root beer garden hosts. Volunteers must be able to make a minimum commitment of four consecutive hours and have strong knowledge of the Whistler area. Volunteers receive a Summer Festivals Volunteer T-shirt.
