The holidays are around the corner, the mountains are open, but the only season we’re thinking about is… soup season!

And Tacofino seems to agree.

Since opening in Squamish last year, Tacofino has become a beloved destination for locals, visitors and those passing through town searching for a delicious, belly-filling meal.

Fans of the restaurant know that Tacofino’s menus—combining Mexican elements and PNW flavours with other global influences—regularly welcome new additions every season, guided by the principle that flavours should be big, bold and plenty adventurous. “When it comes to our menu, we try to subscribe to the idea that there are no rules,” says Berenice Balbuena, Burrito Bar Operations Manager at Tacofino.

That creative freedom, combined with from-scratch preparations and inventive flavour profiles, allows Tacofino’s offerings to strike the perfect balance between comfort food and elevated fare. Nothing captures this balance better than the newest addition to the Squamish menu: a hearty, soul-soothing tortilla soup.

“Served with avocado, feta, sour cream and tortilla chips, it’s our take on a traditional dish that is a hearty addition for the fall and winter season,” explains Balbuena. “In addition to the soup, we’re also participating in Tourism Squamish’s Sips and Savour and will have a submission in their super popular Hot Chocolate Festival, which we’re already working on some ideas for.”

Nothing beats a hot bowl of soup after a day on the mountain, but Tacofino also invites guests to savour some of their classic après fare. “Our top-selling burritos are the Crispy Chicken and Super Veg, while the favourite tacos are the Fish Taco and Soft and Crunchy options,” Balbuena shares. “Plus, our Nachos, Tots and Chips with Queso make for ideal shareables to complement any taco or burrito.”

The Squamish location, Tacofino’s twelfth outpost, also features a lineup of crowd-pleasing options, including the much-loved Crispy Chikun’ Burrito. “A vegan take on our most popular burrito, the black chilli oil in this burrito is the game-changer,” says Balbuena. “We craft it in-house by gently infusing a blend of roasted chilis and aromatic spices, creating a smoky, spicy kick that perfectly complements the crispy soy curls and vibrant toppings. It’s the ultimate balance of bold flavours and satisfying crunch in every bite.”

To make indulging a little easier for locals or skiers and snowboarders looking to grab a quick bite either before or after the mountain, Tacofino has also launched a new online ordering system that lets you pre-order your food, ensuring a delicious meal is waiting for you—no matter which way you’re travelling.

Speaking of going the distance…

Tacofino began as an orange food truck in a surf shop parking lot in 2009. Born from the DIY spirit of the skate, snow and surf communities, few could have predicted how far that little truck would travel. Now, over 15 years later, Tacofino is marking its second year in Squamish and its furthest location along the Sea-to-Sky.

“Our founders' non-traditional expression of Mexi-Cali-style ‘Beach Food’ pulls inspiration from their surf travels all over the world and is echoed in our ever-expanding menu iterations still going strong today.”

So whether you’re passing through, or planning on sticking around, be sure to pull up a table at Tacofino this winter and dig into some hearty food that promises to keep you going, no matter where you’re headed next.
