A long-time Squamish resident has lost his life while working on a forestry contract in the Joffre Creek area.
Megan Johnston of WorkSafeBC confirmed the incident happened on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 11:40 a.m. She reported that the accident involved machinery but the communications officer with WorkSafeBC added that she couldn’t add any further details.
“WorkSafeBC’s fatal and serious incident investigators attended the worksite yesterday (Oct. 16) and their investigation is ongoing,” Johnston wrote in an email to Pique Newsmagazine. “They will be looking at what factors may have caused this incident.”
John Lowe of Squamish Mills reported that Dwayne Constantin, 53, was a Squamish resident who was doing contract work for Squamish Mills in the Joffre Creek area. Constantin had worked with Squamish Mills for 22 years and he has left behind a wife three sons.
“Our employees and contractors are all like family to us,” Lowe said in a news release. “We all are deeply saddened and heartbroken over this tragedy.”
Lowe added that his company is also investigating the incident and operations in the Joffre Creek area are curtailed until the investigations are complete.
A memorial was held for Constantin today in Squamish.
