A Richmond man has pleaded not guilty to two charges of conspiracy to commit murder and one of attempting to pervert, defeat or obstruct justice.
The charges against Richard Charles Reed in Vancouver Provincial Court are almost 900 days old. They cover alleged offences in Port Coquitlam, Vancouver and Richmond going back to 2021.
On Oct. 21, an articling student for the assigned prosecutor told Judge Reginald Harris they hope there will be a resolution to the case soon.
She told Harris it had been hoped Reed, 26, would be arraigned so he could submit his pleas.
After Reed once again refused to attend court Oct. 28, not-guilty pleas were entered on his behalf.
Harris said with Reed’s refusal, he would deem the Supreme Court case to be a judge and jury trial.
The case has been remanded to B.C. Supreme Court.
The court heard defence lawyer Kevin Westell needs to speak with Reed, get instructions and get their case moving forward.
