Man charged for hit-and-run death of B.C. teen

Hundreds of people attended a vigil after the 15-year-old's death.

Charges have been laid in relation to a fatal hit-and-run last year in Kelowna.

Tristan Seeger, 15, was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Franklyn Road and Houghton Road, near Ben Lee Park, on the afternoon of Oct. 21, 2023.

Brandon Kazakoff, 30, has now been charged with dangerous operation causing death, failure to stop or remain at scene of an accident and assault with a weapon.

“On Sept. 6, 2024, Mr. Kazakoff was arrested and will be brought before the courts,” said RCMP in a brief statement Friday, declining to provide additional details.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident police initially announced the arrest of two people.

Investigators said Seeger’s death was related to a nearby bear spray incident that occurred minutes before the teen was hit. The bear spray incident took place near Milex and Filuk courts.

Hundreds of people attended a vigil in Ben Lee Park after Seeger’s death.

He was in grade 10 at the time of his death.
