Thirteen Whistler businesses are set to donate five per cent of their gross sales to the Whistler Community Foundation (WCF) on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The donations will be endowed to the WCF's community fund and are expected to grow over time with the proceeds granted back to local charities.

With financial challenges for charities expected to continue into 2023, WCF is anticipating more grant applications next year than it will be able to fund.

"We are grateful to the 13 businesses joining us in supporting charities to address needs and provide programs to build stronger, healthier and more resilient community," said Claire Mozes, CEO of WCF, in a release. "And, we know that spending in Whistler has ripple effects of reducing climate impacts and boosting our local economy. So, as a community member just by eating and shopping at one of the 13 businesses on the first Saturday in December, you'll help grow WCF's Community Fund and create long-lasting impact."

This year, participating businesses include Armchair Books, Cranked Espresso Bar, Keir Fine Jewellery, Moguls, Smartwool Whistler, Soles Nail Lounge & Footwear, Sushi Village, The Raven Room, The Whistler Hat Gallery Ltd., Upper Village Market, Whistler Hardware, Whistler Kitchen Works, and Zogs.

The WCF provides grants in the areas of environment, arts and culture, social service and education. Since its founding in 1999, the organization has handed out more than $3.7 million in grants, including $292,062 last year.
