One of the North Shore’s leading destinations for alpine recreation is adding a number of new attractions for guests visiting in the warmer months of the year.
Grouse Mountain Resort is building a new Mountain Coaster thrill ride, as well as a chairlift-accessed bike park, lengthening the list of activities currently available at the North Vancouver business.
The resort says the new attractions are part of a $9-million investment, and will both open in spring 2025, after the launch of its new $35-million gondola this coming winter.
When it opens, the gravity coaster will take riders on a series of twists and turns that weave through trees and other features before revealing a view of Vancouver below, the resort said in a press statement.
“For guests who don’t ski or snowboard at Grouse Mountain, it is a side of the resort, and Vancouver, that they’ve likely never seen before,” resort president Michael Cameron said in the statement. "The design of the coaster has allowed us to maintain the integrity of the mountain by incorporating the trees as well as fun features along the journey of the track.”
Construction is underway, and will be a 1,434-metre permanent structure when complete, the resort said.
“Guests will enjoy speeds of up to 45 kilometres an hour on the track which includes a vertical descent of 919 m, a 91-m vertical drop, and an ascent of 515 m which returns them to the mountaintop without having to exit the cart,” reads the statement.
Also set to open next spring is the Mountain Bike Park, which the resort said will be the only lift-accessed bike park on the North Shore.
To build the park, Grouse has enlisted Gravity Logic, a company which helped build the bike park at Whistler. According to the resort, the new park will cater to a range of abilities, with all trails ending at the Screaming Eagle chairlift, which will return riders to the mountaintop.
“The addition of the gondola has allowed us to explore a whole mountain of opportunities not previously available with our current Skyride [tram],” Cameron said. “It’s an exciting time for Grouse and we’re so happy to be sharing these new amenities with our community.”
