Avalanche Canada has issued a warning to all South Coast backcountry users that avalanches are highly likely Monday, as a new snowstorm brings with it unstable snowpacks.
Issued Sunday (March 13) evening, Avalanche Canada wrote it is “confident the likelihood of avalanche will increase with the arrival of the forecast weather,” as it expects to see 40 – 70 cms of new snow by Monday evening.
The warning affects all mountains in the South Coast region, including the backcountry accessible from the North Shore mountains, including Mt Seymour, Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain.
“Storm slabs will be deep and reactive, with 70-120 cm of new and recent snow sitting over a slick crust,” Avalanche Canada wrote.
No elevation or slope is immune to the warning; the high danger rating begins below the treeline on all faces of the mountains and runs right through until Tuesday morning.
