TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Election campaign and trade

The federal election heads into its third week with the party leaders trying to pitch themselves as the best person to stand up to Donald Trump. Trade issues and the U.S. president, which dominated the campaign last week, are expected to continue to top the political agenda this week.

Bank of Canada surveys

The Bank of Canada will release its business outlook survey and its Canadian survey of consumer expectations on Monday, offering a look into what businesses and consumers are expecting. The surveys come ahead of the bank's next interest rate decision April 16. The central bank cut its key interest rate last month to 2.75 per cent.

Roots earnings

Roots Corp. will release its fourth-quarter and full-year financial results on Wednesday morning before financial markets open. The report will include the key holiday shopping season for the clothing retailer.

Poirier speech

TC Energy chief executive François Poirier will give a speech to the Canadian Club of Toronto on Thursday. Poirier is part of a group of Canadian energy sector chief executives calling on the leaders of the federal political parties to help boost the industry as a way to strengthen economic sovereignty.

Corus results

Television and radio broadcaster Corus Entertainment Inc. will release its second-quarter results and hold a conference call with analysts on Friday. It's the first full quarter to include Flavour Network and Home Network, Corus's new lifestyle networks.
