The announcement is an expected, yet significant, step for the Whistler-based company because Prior made its name in snowboards.
General Manager of Prior Dean Thompson said the companys ski line was developed when Chris Prior decided to spend more time at the office.
"There was always skiers wandering through the door asking us about skis but we were really focused on doing the snowboarding thing," said Thompson.
"At the end of the day it was about Chris just spending a couple more hours in here and getting this project rocking."
Thompson said while making skis was something different, the company wasnt breaking completely new ground.
"Weve based our name around quality product and thats our goal with the skis," he said.
"Weve done our homework, we invested 18 months in research and getting feedback.
"But weve always made snow riding products and this is just an extension of that."
The official launch of Priors ski range starts in October and initially there will be six lengths available.
The skis were designed for Whistlers terrain and as such, they look and feel a lot like Priors all-mountain snowboards: durable and useful in any kind of terrain.
The skis are expected to retail for $899.
