Have you ever wanted to try squash but have yet to get around to it?

Well, this may be the local opportunity you have been waiting for.

The Squamish Squash Club's annual Women's Squash Week 2023 is coming up from Sept. 17 to 26.

While provincially, only 27% of squash players are women, the Squamish Squash Club maintains a 49% female membership, according to the local club's Dara Sklar.

"A big part of that comes from the success of our annual Women's Squash Week, where we offer free squash intro sessions, as well as a couple of 'mix, match and mingle' game-play sessions over the course of a week," she told The Squamish Chief in an email.

All of the events throughout the week are created, coached and hosted by women.

The one-hour intro sessions each have six women, with two female coaches.

The sessions are designed specifically for players who are new to the game.

There is also an opportunity for open round-robin play for more intermediate-level women players who want to come down and meet new opponents, Sklar said.

To participate in this week of events, go to squamishsquash.ca, create a free pay-as-you-go account and then RSVP to the event that is of interest.

The week sold out last year, and Sklar said she expects the same to happen this year.

The Squamish Squash Club is located within the Squamish Valley Golf Club at 2458 Mamquam Road.

Facilities include two regulation squash courts, a fitness room, change rooms with lockers, a sauna and showers, and a public viewing gallery.
