Ashley Farquharson was the fastest female luger in the second FIL Nations Cup of the 2023-24 season on Dec. 14, besting the storied Whistler track in 39.161 seconds. The 24-year-old New Yorker also won the Nations Cup on her home track a week earlier, and impressed with a fifth place at the year's first World Cup.
The other two podium places went to Sea to Sky athletes Embyr-Lee Susko in second (+0.032) and Midori Holland in third (+0.144).
"I have raced a Nations Cup in Altenberg before, but today I improved from ninth to second place," said Susko in a press release. "Things are looking up and it's a very good feeling that makes me proud. I just wanted to have fun, but it's incredible to have won my first senior medal this way."
Remarked Holland on her Nations Cup debut in a release: "It's a great experience to race at home and win your first senior medal in front of your friends and family. It's just a lot of fun."
Another American, Jonathan Gustafson, slid to his first Nations Cup breakthrough of the season after finishing second in Lake Placid. Gustafson won in 50.572 seconds ahead of Alexander Ferlazzo from Australia (+0.009) and Ukraine's Anton Dukach (+0.257).
