Despite some mid-tournament hardship, the U18A1 Whistler Winterhawks rallied for bronze at Provincials.
Whistler flipped the script on South Okanagan (a unit which had beaten them earlier in the tournament) when it mattered most, clinching a podium spot by way of a 3-0 victory.
Playing up into Tier 3, the Winterhawks displayed a high-powered offence to start Provincials. They won their first three games by dominant margins: 8-3 over Smithers, 7-1 against Dawson Creek and 10-5 over Powell River. Adversity came in the form of a 3-0 loss to South Okanagan and a 2-1 setback against Mission right before the bronze medal match.
After going 7-0-1 in the placement phase of its campaign, Whistler managed a 10-9-2 regular season record in Flight 2: the second-highest level of league play. Multiple athletes missed time due to injuries, but the team regained full strength in February and went undefeated at a tournament in Las Vegas.
Such momentum continued during playoff time as the Winterhawks went 3-0-1 to secure the U18 Tier 3 Championship banner.
