Whistler’s Zero Ceiling is launching "Aprés For Change" as part of its 2024 fundraising efforts.
The retro-inspired event is scheduled for Oct. 19 at Dusty’s Bar and BBQ, with the goal of raising $100,000.
“Hosted by the fabulous Gia Metric, a gender-fluid drag superstar and mental health advocate from Canada’s Drag Race, this evening aims to raise $100,000 to help young people needing support,” reads a Zero Ceiling release promoting the event.
Early bird tickets to the fundraising event are $95 plus taxes and fees, while general admission tickets are $105. Attendees get a free drink, dinner and of course, dancing and entertainment.
“Get ready to show off your best retro ski gear and celebrate for a cause that’s making a real difference in the lives of young people,” the release reads.
Funds will be raised through ticket prices, a silent auction, live auction, raffle and a vines and spirits wall. Zero Ceiling has a year-end goal of raising $350,000 to support its programs.
The timing of the event is fortuitous for Zero Ceiling, which recently received the keys to five new units in Whistler which will be used to house youth in the community at affordable rates.
For 27 years, Zero Ceiling has been supporting marginalized young people from Vancouver and through the Sea to Sky corridor. Through its Work 2 Live Program, participants aged between 19 and 27 are provided supportive housing and employment opportunities along with life skills training, outdoor adventures and a family-like community. In total, 114 individuals have been supported by Zero Ceiling over the years.
