Non-Umo tickets will be phased out, but will remain valid until used up

The Umo app and Umo cards will soon be the main way to buy a bus pass in Whistler, with legacy tickets to be phased out.

There are some changes coming to how you can buy fares for transit in Whistler, with the Umo app and reloadable Umo cards to become the primary passes.

BC Transit extended Umo into Whistler’s transit network in June this year and it has operated alongside legacy ticketing since then, but as of mid-September, the network is ready to transition fully to the new ticketing system.

“BC Transit and the Resort Municipality of Whistler are now encouraging riders to switch to a Umo fare product today and beat the winter rush,” reads a BC Transit press release announcing the move.

“Legacy pass and ticket fare products will soon cease to be sold in the Whistler Transit system, but will continue to be accepted aboard the bus until used up,” reads the release. Cash, and the BC Bus Pass, will continue to be accepted.

Users that hold a six- or 12-month non-Umo pass that expires in 2025 are encouraged to visit municipal hall to upgrade it to an Umo card.

Prices will remain the same as laid out on the BC Transit website for Whistler, with single rides costing $2.50, a day pass $7, and season passes costing $270 and $510 for six and 12 months, respectively.

While bus users can now use Umo or stick with cash, according to BC Transit, it will eventually enable onboard payments using debit and credit cards.
