An injured man was rescued after climbing approximately 80 feet up a tree in Whistler's Blueberry neighbourhood Wednesday, says RCMP.

A Whistler man was heli-vac’d to the Lower Mainland earlier today after he was reportedly found injured in a tree in Blueberry, police confirmed in a release.

At about 4 a.m. on March 9, Whistler RCMP responded to a call of a male “who had left his residence and was potentially in medical distress,” police said.

Officers searched the area and requested the assistance of police dog services from the Lower Mainland, which helped locate the man approximately 80 feet up a tree in the 3200 block of Peak Drive.

The man had suffered injuries and was unable to climb down from the tree, police noted. Eventually, the RCMP’s Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team was mobilized and flew to Whistler to help extricate the man.

Whistler Search and Rescue, BC Emergency Health Services, the Whistler Fire Rescue Service and the Conservation Officer Service were all notified of the ongoing incident.

Once safely on the ground, the man was treated for his injuries before being flown to a Lower Mainland hospital. Police said he is currently in stable condition.

“[I am] extremely proud of [my] members and for [the] assistance of all the emergency services involved, which led to a successful rescue of this male,” Whistler RCMP Cpl. Nate Miller said in the release.
