The Whistler Golf Club is set to closer for nearly two years in September 2025 for an extensive, $10-million renovation.

Whistler’s oldest golf course is getting a $10-million facelift.

In a Nov. 14 release, the Whistler Golf Club and Tourism Whistler announced plans for a “transformative” renovation designed to “elevate the golf experience and enhance the course’s playability, beauty, and safety.” Opened in 1983, the course “requires significant updates to remain current, competitive, and aligned with Whistler’s reputation as a world-class resort destination,” the release said. The extensive renovation is part of the club’s master plan redevelopment.

“This master plan has been years in the making, and we’re excited to see it finally come to fruition,” said club GM Alan Kristmanson in the release. “We began this journey over three years ago with a vision to elevate our course to new heights. We look forward to getting underway next fall.”

Under the direction of course architect Thad Layton, the upgrades will include a complete rebuilding of tee complexes; the repositioning, rebuilding, or, in some cases, removal of bunkers; the reconstruction of multiple fairways and a reimagining of holes 4, 8, and 18; the realignment of greens on holes 3 and 12; and cart path improvements.

With renovations slated to begin on Sept. 2, 2025, the course will be closed until early summer 2027, the release went on. The club’s driving range and retail shop will remain on their typical seasonal schedules during the renovations. Upgrades to Palmer’s Restaurant are also being considered, but details and timelines are still to be confirmed.

Barrett Fisher, president and CEO of Tourism Whistler, which operates and manages the club, said the multimillion-dollar upgrades will raise the profile of golf in the resort.

“Tourism Whistler is delighted to see this comprehensive renovation proceed, as it will raise the stature of golf in Whistler, continuing to elevate the resort as a world-class summer and golf destination,” she said.

The Whistler Golf Club will host a renovation open house in spring 2025, prior to the course opening for the season.
