As expected, the heavy rain system covering Whistler and the Sea to Sky is making for challenging conditions at Whistler Blackcomb this morning, the mountain operator said in a social media update Friday morning.
" Extreme winds (currently peaking at 100-km/hour) are gusting in the alpine again this morning. As well, recent high amounts of rain and snow across the resort have created avalanche hazards at higher elevations," the post read.
With that in mind, several lifts will remain closed Friday: Peak Express ; Harmony 6 Express; Symphony Express ; 7th Heaven ; Glacier Express ; Jersey Cream; and Crystal Ridge Express .
"Patrol has shared with us that it’s best to stick to groomed trails today as snow conditions are heavy and wet," the post read.
" Ensuring our mountains are safe for skiing and riding in weather events like this is challenging and takes time. The good news is this storm is expected to ease up heading into this evening and conditions will be better heading into the weekend."
As of 10:15 a.m., a rainfall warning remains in effect for Whistler and the Sea to Sky.
