After a few days of May showers, summer temperatures will return to Whistler this week.
Meteorologists called for a 30-per-cent chance of showers and risk of thunderstorm in Whistler on May 10, but the blue skies and high of nearly 19 degrees C the resort is experiencing on Wednesday afternoon will usher in a full week of unseasonably warm weather.
Temperatures in the resort will continue to rise throughout the coming days, with Environment Canada forecasters predicting clear skies and daytime highs of 19 C in Whistler on Thursday, 23 C on Friday and 28 C on Saturday. The sunshine—and heat—is expected to linger into the workweek. Highs on both Sunday and Monday are forecast to reach 29 C, before dropping slightly to 27 C in Whistler on Tuesday.
Overnight lows over the weekend will still land in the double-digits, according to the federal weather agency.
The Mothers’ Day weekend will be even hotter in Pemberton, where Environment Canada expects daytime highs to hit 31 C on Saturday and 33 C on Sunday.
Those forecasts have record-breaking potential: the hottest May 15 ever recorded in Whistler occurred in 2018, when the meteor reached 28 C.
The average high in Whistler on May 15 is 15.9 C, according to Environment Canada, while the average low is listed at 3.6 C.
