The Whistler Mountain Bike Park opens on Friday, May 17.

Whistler Blackcomb opens for summer operations this weekend, with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park cutting the ribbon on a 25th-anniversary season on Friday, May 17.

“Our dedicated team has been busy preparing our expansive trail network throughout Whistler Mountain Bike Park for the past several weeks,” said Belinda Trembath, chief operating officer at Whistler Blackcomb, in a press release ahead of the big day.

“All that hard work is greatly appreciated as we welcome riders back for our 25th-anniversary season to the world’s premier mountain biking destination, which we're excited to share is fully operational for the first time since 2019.”

Previous years have been disrupted by the pandemic and ongoing improvements across the mountain, such as the replacement of the Creekside Gondola and Fitzsimmons Chair, which was opened near the start of the 2023-24 winter season and comes into its own this summer as a key access point to the bike park with increased capacity.

The increased uphill capacity for those seeking to send it downhill is a “game-changer” according to the resort, which added in the release the Fitz Zone will be open on Day 1, the Gatorade Skills Zone has two new trails for the season, and looking ahead, the Phat Wednesday race series and Crankworx Whistler are back and spooling up for a quite a season on the mountain.

You don’t have to be attached to a bike to enjoy the mountain this summer, however, with the re-imagined Summer Alpine Experience opening to guests from May 21 (formerly the Summer 360 Sightseeing Experience), which gives guests access to adventures and activities on Blackcomb mountain and its 50 kilometres of trails.

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola is expected to open next month, on June 15, which will also see the Peak Express open to give access to the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye Lookout on Whistler Mountain.

Beyond that, there’s also bear-viewing tours, the family adventure zone, the Whistler Farmers' Market, valley bike rentals, Ziptrek Ecotours and more to look forward to in summer 2024.

Looking way ahead to winter 2024-25, the Epic Pass early bird prices continue through for a few more days, with prices set to increase on May 27.
