An investigation is underway and Highway 99 is closed south of Squamish due to a serious vehicle incident, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred about three kilometres south of Squamish near Britannia Beach, between Sea View Drive and Copper Drive.
"Squamish Sea to Sky RCMP and EHS responded to a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 99 at Britannia Beach at approximately 9:21 a.m. this morning," said Insp. Robert Dykstra with the RCMP, in an email. "The collision involved a motorcycle and a car, and the driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. ICARS has been called out to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing."
An assessment is in progress and no detour is available.
According to posts in the Sea to Sky Road Conditions Facebook group, traffic is backed up past Shannon Falls on the Sea to Sky highway. DriveBC's latest update predicts the road will re-open at 3 p.m.
