Health authorities have identified 26 new cases of COVID-19 in Whistler over the past week, a further slowing of transmission in the resort from its recent surge.
In a information bulletin Thursday, Feb. 25, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) said it “recorded a further reduction in COVID-19 transmission in Whistler compared to previous reporting periods.”
The 26 new cases between Feb. 16 to 21 compares to 56 cases recorded the week prior, and 43 the week before that.
That brings Whistler’s caseload to 702 since Jan. 1, of which 671 individuals have recovered.
“VCH continues to advise Whistler residents and visitors to avoid social gatherings with those outside of their immediate bubbles, to stay home while sick, to wash their hands regularly, and to maintain physical distance when in public,” the bulletin went on. “Those who have previously contracted and recovered from COVID-19 are also advised to adhere to all public health guidance.”
The Howe Sound health region, which comprises Whistler, Pemberton, Squamish, Lions Bay and parts of the southern Stl’atl’mx Nation, added 48 new cases between Feb. 14 and 20, which remains one of the highest transmission rates per 100,000 in the province among VCH’s health service delivery areas.
Anyone with COVID-like symptoms should complete B.C.’s self-assessment tool and access testing, if required, by calling Whistler’s dedicated COVID clinic line at 604-966-1428, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily.
