Classical music lovers are in for a treat next week when the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra returns to the resort for the first time in five years.
The renowned orchestra will perform at Whistler Olympic Plaza on June 29 at 7:30 p.m. Residents and guests are advised to arrive early to claim a seat and check out the opening acts.
"The VSO is honoured to kick-off Whistler’s summer of live music performances and to share the unique thrill of hearing a live symphony orchestra together as a community," said VSO vice-president of marketing Cameron McRae. "Our outdoor summer concerts bring tens of thousands of different people together to go on a shared emotional journey, and we can't wait to return to the Olympic Plaza to enjoy a memorable evening of music together as a community."
While this year's free Summer Concert Series officially kicks off with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings on Canada Day, the VSO is bringing a jam-packed lineup that will surely have something for everyone. Fans can escape to Hollywood with the music of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and James Bond, plus enjoy classical favourites from The Barber of Seville, Carmen and more.
“We are so excited to welcome the VSO back to Whistler Olympic Plaza to launch another summer of music in our community. The power of a full orchestra playing iconic musical scores in this majestic outdoor setting will be an unforgettable experience,” said Mayor Jack Crompton in a release last month. “On top of that, Whistler’s Summer Concerts Series features an outstanding line-up of musical performances through July and August with even more concerts than last year.”
