After more than two months of complimentary rides in Whistler, free transit in the resort will end tomorrow, with fall service beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Effective Sept. 6, seasonal routes 4 & 5 (Marketplace & Upper Village/Benchlands Shuttle) will be back in operation, while Route 10 Valley Express will be expanded to provide service to Millar Creek Road in Function Junction. The route will also travel into Whistler Village along Lorimer Road, Northlands Boulevard, and Village Gate Boulevard.
The Resort Municipality of Whistler offered free transit as a way to rebuild ridership after a four-month transit strike earlier this year.
The municipality is also offering discounts on monthly, six-month and 12-month transit passes through Oct. 31. Until then, monthly passes will be available for purchase at 30-per-cent off, six-month passes at 40-per-cent off, and year-long passes at 50-per-cent off.
At the moment, the municipality is not considering making transit free forever.
