SLRD issues evacuation order for part of Area B

The Downtown Creek wildfire burning near Highway 99 south of Lillooet is about 200 hectares in size.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has issued an evacuation order for several properties south of Lillooet in electoral Area B, citing a wildfire in the vicinity of the Downton Creek FSR.

The Downton Creek FSR wildfire is estimated to be about 200 hectares in size, and burning out of control near Highway 99.

Members of the RCMP are assisting with the evacuation, which applies to all addresses in the following areas:

  • District Lot 2343, Lillooet District
  • District Lot 4361, Lillooet District
  • District Lot 4361- Lot A, Lillooet District
  • Lot 1 and Lot 2 in District Lot 4360, Lillooet District
  • Cottonwood Recreation Site EC1576
  • Cinnamon Recreation Site REC1874
  • Gott Recreation Site REC1872
  • Rogers Recreation Site REC1568
  • Seton Ridge Recreation Trail REC4684
  • All other properties as outlined on this map.

Residents in the affected areas must leave immediately.

"Evacuate north toward Lillooet or south toward Pemberton. If emergency accommodations are required, register for Emergency Support Services at: The Canadian Red Cross 24/7 Disaster Assistance Line 1-888-800-6493," the SLRD said on its website.

Other messaging from the SLRD:

  • If you need transportation assistance from the area, advise the person providing this notice or call (604) 356 3082.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation.  Do not use more vehicles than you have to.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
